FERPA Statement
Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Statement
For Charter Oak State College
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law enacted in 1974 that guarantees the confidentiality of a student's records. FERPA guidelines prohibit institutions from releasing student data to anyone without expressed written permission from the student.
Charter Oak State College strictly adheres to FERPA policies and regulations. Staff is not allowed to give out student information to anyone but the student; information cannot be shared with parents, siblings, spouses, and/or friends without expressed written permission from the student. The student's written permission is not required to disclose information about a student who is claimed as a dependent for income tax purposes, however; the parent will be required to provide a copy of the most recent income tax return as proof of the student's dependency status. This policy is adhered to without exception.
Please be aware that if anyone contacts the College on your behalf, staff will be limited to providing general information only unless written permission from you is on file at the College.
Please complete the Release of Information Form and return it to the attention of the Registrar's Office via mail or fax (860) 760-6918. You should list all individuals who you have designated to receive this information.
Feel free to contact the College via e-mail or via phone at (860) 832-3800 if you have any questions.
Thank you.
