Degree Requirements
A degree from Charter Oak requires more than the simple accumulation of 60
credits for the Associate degree and 120 credits for the baccalaureate
degree. All students must complete General Education requirements
as well as a minimum number of credits in Liberal Arts. Baccalaureate
degree candidates must also complete a faculty-approved concentration
of 36 credits or more.
Associate Degree
The Associate
in Arts and Associate in Science are General Studies degrees. Students do not specialize until seeking the Bachelor’s degree. Once students complete General Education requirements, and the remaining credits that they will earn are open electives. The Associate degree requires that at least half of the credits are liberal arts.

Bachelor’s Degree
Students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor
of Science depending upon the number of liberal arts credits completed. While
the degree is in general studies, students specialize in an area
of concentration at the Bachelor’s level. Once students have completed
General Education, liberal arts, and concentration
requirements, the remaining credits are open electives. Approximately 40% of
our graduates go on to earn advanced degrees at other colleges and universities.
