Credit for Learning From Experience

Charter Oak recognizes that college level learning can take place in a variety of settings both inside and outside the traditional classroom. Therefore we provide you with multiple options for earning credit. You can complete your degree program by combining your prior learning with the acquisition of new knowledge in a manner that best suits your needs and inclination.

Standardized exams can be used to evaluate college-level learning through life experience.

The College also accepts credit recommendations for non-collegiate programs evaluated by the American Council on Education and the Office of Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction of the University of the State of New York.

The Portfolio Assessment process at Charter Oak State College can be used for evaluation of all other college-level learning.
