Fellow alumni, you may be interested in knowing that the Alumni Association contributes to the D'Amato Award. It is a Graduate Study Scholarship given on an annual basis to a Charter Oak alumna or alumnus pursuing graduate studies. Unfortunately we had no one apply for the scholarship this year. I urge each of our alumni who are pursuing their master’s degree to apply. We are here to support your future educational growth and the D’Amato Award is one way we can do this financially.
This past year the Alumni Board created an Undergraduate Scholarship which will be given annually to a currently matriculated student of Charter Oak State College. A committee made of three Alumni Board Members reviewed the applications submitted this year and awarded it to Paula Smith, from Cantonment, FL. She is a Curriculum Information Specialist for Escambia County Head Start. Congratulations Paula!
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the class of 2006 on their graduation. We are honored to have each of you as new members of the college’s Alumni Association, and look forward to seeing and working with you on future events and initiatives for the college.
We are pleased to be sponsoring and organizing the 2nd Annual Degrees Without Boundaries 5K Road Race on November 4, 2006. The 2005 race was a great success, and the proceeds from the fundraiser provided scholarship opportunities for Charter Oak students. In addition, it is a way to support and promote the mission and vision of the College. Al Terzi of Channel 3 (WFSB-TV), who is also an Alumni of COSC, was a participant in the race. We need people to run, walk, contribute, and volunteer their time. Please visit www.charteroak/race2006 for updated information.
We are always looking for new members to add to the Board, and new ideas to promote the school, and to enhance the experiences of our membership. Please feel free to contact Lori Pendleton, Director of Admissions and Staff Advisor to the Alumni Association at
lpendleton@charteroak.edu or 860.832.3858 to get involved.
Sincerely,
Dan Cahill
President, Charter Oak State College Alumni Association
