Lifelong Learning Credit Portfolio
Adults learn constantly -- on the job, in relationships, through reading, travel, hobbies, and life events. As an adult student, you probably have acquired college-level knowledge outside the classroom in several areas. You can claim college credit for this prior learning by enrolling in a 3-credit course, IDS102, and constructing a document called a portfolio that presents the evidence necessary for your learning to be evaluated. All portfolios share three common elements:
- A college course description that serves as the standard against which students' knowledge is measured;
- A personal narrative in which students describe what they did, what they learned, and how they applied their knowledge; and
- Evidence from a variety of sources that supports students' claims to knowledge.
What follows is an overview of the portfolio assessment process at Charter Oak State College, along with some answers to frequently asked questions. After reading through this information, if you have other questions or would like to discuss the process, we encourage you to contact the Assessment Coordinator, Dr. Maryanne LeGrow, at 860.832.3846 or .
Please Note: Portfolios submitted by students who have not completed Charter Oak's Prior Learning Portfolio development course, or who do not have an approved Application for Portfolio Assessment, will not be accepted and will not be returned. Please do not send any portfolio materials without contacting us and receiving permission first.
