While most traditional college's offer majors, a bachelor's degree at Charter Oak requires you to complete a
concentration, which consists of a minimum of 36 credits in one or more fields of study. This enables you to personalize your degree based on your specific career goal. To learn more about each concentration, please click the links below.
Students preparing to graduate with a bachelor's degree must complete a concentration capstone experience with Charter Oak State College earning a grade of "C" or higher. The purpose of this experience is to demonstrate mastery of the learning outcomes in the chosen concentration. This requirement may not be met with a course transferred from another institution.
Individualized / Liberal Studies **
The Individualized Studies concentration option allows you to combine professional studies with the liberal arts and sciences into a cohesive course of study. The key to receiving approval for this concentration is your ability to explain the rationale underneath the proposed concentration and its relation to your career and/or personal goals.
The Liberal Studies concentration is composed of traditional liberal arts disciplines found in the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences and mathematics. Again, you will be able to pursue this concentration only if you are able to clearly explain the rationale behind the proposed concentration and its relation to your career and/or personal goals.
** These concentrations may be completed using Charter Oak State College courses exclusively.
