Computer Security Certificate

The certificate in Computer Security is designed for those students who have a background in computers and/or security but want to specialize in the area of Computer Security. All courses are available online through Charter Oak.

Certificate Requirements

IT 101 Introduction to MIS 3 credits
IT 135 Introduction to Computer Security 3 credits
IT 220 Networking and Data Communications 3 credits
IT 335 Computer Security Systems 3 credits
IT 435 Network Security Management 3 credits
TOTAL 15 credits

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Students who complete a certificate in Computer Security should be able to:

  1. explain how information technologies gather, store, process and communicate information;
  2. explain the history, terminology, and concepts of technology security;
  3. discuss the legal and ethical aspects of an increasingly interconnected digital world;
  4. understand and apply the concepts of communication, telecommunications, and networking;
  5. explain the field of information security from both the managerial and technical perspective;
  6. articulate the current risks and threats to an organization’s data;
  7. demonstrate methods of addressing and safeguarding critical electronic assets;
  8. apply the theoretical knowledge as well as the practical techniques utilized in computer security; and
  9. demonstrate how network security relates to other area of information technology.

Grades of C or higher must be earned in each certificate course.

Certificate Programs
Certificate programs are designed for adults who are interested in learning a specific set of skills and gaining knowledge in a certain area, but may not want to earn a degree. Credits earned apply toward a Charter Oak associate or baccalaureate degree.
