Concentrations / Fields of Study

Although most traditional colleges offer majors, Charter Oak State College finds that approach to be much too restrictive for most students. As a result, we have designed our bachelor's (baccalaureate) degrees in General Studies to broadly represent the general and liberal education requirements that are required in all industries. In addition, to enable you to focus on the field or fields of study that interest you most, a bachelor's degree at Charter Oak requires you to complete a 'concentration'; which consists of a minimum of 36 credits in one or more fields of study, giving you the opportunity to personalize your degree based on your specific career goals. To learn more each concentration, please click the links below.

Students preparing to graduate with a bachelor's degree must complete a concentration capstone experience with Charter Oak State College earning a grade of "C" or higher. The purpose of this experience is to demonstrate mastery of the learning outcomes in the chosen concentration. This requirement may not be met with a course transferred from another institution.

Liberal Studies **
This concentration is composed of traditional liberal arts disciplines found in the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences and mathematics. Again, you will be able to pursue this concentration only if you are able to clearly explain the rationale behind the proposed concentration and its relation to your career and/or personal goals.
