Certificate in Infant-Toddler Care

Certificate in Infant-Toddler Care

(Note: This program will be phased out in 2023.)

This certificate in Infant-Toddler Care is a 12 credit certificate for students who do not have previous credits in infant/toddler care. It is designed for students who work with infants and toddlers in a licensed center-based program or family day care program including teachers in Early Head Start or other publicly funded programs. This program of study provides infant/toddler teachers/care providers with opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of how infants and toddlers develop and learn.

Applicants must have at least one year's experience working with infants and toddlers in a licensed center-based or licensed family day care program and have a high school diploma or G.E.D or higher.

This Certificate is 12 credits and all of these credits must be completed at Charter Oak State College.  The four courses (12 credits) will provide a foundation of practical and theoretical knowledge in all core competency areas for the optimal care and development of infants and toddlers. All courses must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better.

In addition to earning 12 credits, students in the certificate program must demonstrate that they have successfully completed CPR and First Aid and that their qualification is current. Students must also provide documentation verifying that they have one-year experience working with infants and toddlers.

Credits towards the certificate must be earned at Charter Oak State College through either credit-based courses or Pathways exams. The only exception to this requirement is when the student is currently enrolled in an ECE program at Charter Oak State College and has added the certificate on to an existing degree program where the community college courses have already been accepted.

Students who have earned a CDA in Infant/Toddler Care may have the CDA accepted to meet the experience requirements. The CDA may not be used to meet course equivalencies for any courses that are part of the certificate.

Students enrolling in the Infant/Toddler Certificate Program will have one year from the date of application to earn the certificate.
