Omar Rosario named Student Speaker for Charter Oak State College commencement

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Charter Oak State College has announced Omar Rosario, of Willimantic CT, as student speaker for the College's commencement ceremony on June 1 in Welte Auditorium at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT.

"Getting a degree from Charter Oak State College has allowed me to be more marketable. It wasn't until I missed out on a few job opportunities due to not having a bachelor's degree that I decided to make it happen at all cost," said Rosario who works with adolescents in Windham helping them succeed in life regardless of circumstance. "All of this was possible because I had the drive to achieve a goal and Charter Oak provided a great format for me to attain that goal."

"As a new student Omar set an aggressive schedule when he chose his initial graduation date," said Ann Marie Gagnon, Academic Counselor. "However, like so many adult students, events at home and at work affected his plans. Despite those setbacks, Omar never lost sight of his primary goal. He adjusted his schedule. He changed his original graduation date. And he kept working to earn his Bachelor's degree. As the student speaker, Omar truly represents the accomplishments of all of his Charter Oak State College classmates."

Rosario said "This is a great honor and brings a lot of joy to our family. They know how hard I worked! I am humbled by the announcement."
