LPN Refresher Course

NUR 102NC is a non-credit, certificate refresher course designed by the Connecticut League for Nursing (CLN) to prepare inactive LPNs to return, after an absence of three years or more, to the practice of nursing in first-level, medical-surgical staff positions in hospitals, long-term care/sub-acute care facilities, home care, or in physician’s offices. The course is offered in two modules for a total of 180 contact hours.

The CLN may be contacted at (203) 265-4248.

Course Content

The course consists of two modules, the first of which is offered entirely online, thereby eliminating the need to travel to a classroom. You can access the online module at any time of the day or night convenient to your schedule. The course is self-paced.  This means that you can register at any time, and have 6 months to complete the online portion of the course

The second module consists of a three-week supervised clinical practicum within a cooperating hospital, sub-acute care, or long-term care facility.

You must complete both modules to earn the refresher course certificate. Should you opt to participate in only Module One for personal enrichment, you will earn the associated 90 contact hours.

Before participating in Module Two, you must provide proof that you hold a current LPN license. If you do not have a current Connecticut license, you MUST contact the State Board of Nurse Examiners at 860-509-8389 for review of your licensure status prior to registering for the refresher course. In addition, CPR Professional Certification, professional liability insurance, and documentation of a recent physical and current immunizations are required before students may participate in Module Two.

Module Descriptions

NUR 102NC Module One is web-based. The first several lessons of the course address basic concepts and skills applicable in the care of patients experiencing a variety of health care problems. Later lessons address selected health problems for which there have been recent therapeutic advances. The physiological, as well as, the psychosocial aspects of problems are explored, and contemporary medical-surgical, pharmacological and nursing regimens are described. (90 contact hours).

NUR 102NC Module Two consists of a three-week, 90-hour, supervised, hands-on, clinical practicum in a cooperating hospital or long-term/sub-acute care facility. You will have graduated experiences in providing direct care to patients. These experiences will integrate the new knowledge and updated skills addressed in the first module. Experiences will be individually designed by a clinical coordinator and supervised by a nurse mentor in the hospital or long-term care unit to which you are assigned. (90 contact hours)

The Connecticut League for Nursing (CLN) will work with you to arrange for your clinical practicum.  Every effort will be made to place you in a facility geographically convenient to your home.
