Certificate Programs
Charter Oak's certificate programs are perfect for professionals and adult learners
seeking continuing education and career advancement opportunities.
The following certificate courses are all offered online, in accelerated, convenient,
5- or 8-week terms. Students do not need to be matriculated with the college. Students
who are already fully matriculated with Charter Oak State College can apply for a certificate program without the certificate application fee.
- After School Education Credential
This is a professional certification program developed through collaboration among
Charter Oak State College, the Connecticut After School Network, and Connecticut Charts-A-Course
that establishes educational and experiential competency standards for specialists
in the care and education of children, ages 5 - 15, outside of school hours.
- Computer Security Certificate
Do you have formal knowledge or training in computers, yet want to learn more about
security issues? If so, you may be an excellent candidate for the Computer Security
Certificate.
- Direct Care Workers Certificate
This certificate for Direct Care Workers provides an overview of issues in aging and
the main issues direct care workers will be facing. The certificate is designed to
enhance clinical skills of direct care providers in long term care facilities, including
front line workers, receptionists, and recreation facilitators. It also provides an
avenue for health care providers to move into supervisory positions and/or to further
their education towards advanced degrees.
- Direct Care Workers Certificate - Specialty Skills in Elder Care
The certificate for Direct Care Workers - Specialty Skills in Elder Care is designed
to enhance clinical skills of direct care providers in long term care facilities,
including front line workers, receptionists, and recreation facilitators. It targets
specialty areas in elder care and gives an overview of health care systems and administration.
It also provides an avenue for health care providers to move into supervisory positions
and/or to further their education towards advanced degrees.
- Health Insurance Customer Service Certificate
The Certificate in Health Insurance Customer Services is designed for students who
are interested in career development within the Health Insurance industry. It is also
appropriate for individuals seeking to transition into the Health Insurance industry.
All of the courses are available in an online accelerated format through Charter Oak.
- Infant-Toddler Care Certificate
Anyone who works with infants and toddlers in a licensed child care center or licensed
family child care program, including teachers in Early Head Start and other publicly
funded programs will benefit from this certificate. This certificate will also allow
you to earn 12 college credits toward an associate degree in early childhood education.
- Land Surveying Certificate
The certificate in Land Surveying is designed for students with a background in land
surveying who desire to advance their knowledge of the art and science of the profession
and better prepare themselves for professional licensure. It is also designed to allow
students with no land surveying experience to better transition into the profession.
- Leadership in Health Care Administration Certificate
This certificate is primarily intended for students who are already employed in the
health care industry (clinical, allied health, insurance, medical office, etc.) and
are seeking career advancement. All courses may be completed online, and all credits
will apply toward degree requirements at Charter Oak State College.
- Paralegal Certificate (Post-Baccalaureate)
Students who complete a certificate in Paralegal Studies will be able to understand,
apply and adhere to ethical and professional practices within the scope of their position,
understand the doctrines of the Attorney/client privilege and apply that to legal
review, conduct legal research effectively, and more.
- Project Management Certificate
Does your current position require project management skills, or are you looking
for a career that does? This certificate program is designed to assist professionals,
with some college credits and work experience, in developing valuable project management
skills.
- Public Safety Certificate
Are you a public safety professional with some college education and work experience?
If so, you probably already possess strong technical skills in fire science, criminal
justice, or law enforcement. You may, however, lack the management training necessary
to truly advance your career. The Public Safety Administration Certificate provides
the advanced management education that helps public safety professionals succeed as
managers and administrators.
- Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate (PDF)
Most of the courses that comprise this certificate are under development. A continuing
education and professional development program that prepares education paraprofessionals
for entry into the ever-expanding field of Education. This certificate program is
specifically designed to refine your teaching skill sets as they relate to working
with students in an educational setting and to enhance your opportunity for career
advancement. This program of study is also appropriate for practicing paraprofessionals
who would like to extend their knowledge while earning college credit.
- Speech and Language Pathology Assistant Certificate (PDF)
A continuing education and professional development opportunity for those committed
to achieving their career objectives in the specialized field of Speech and Language
Pathology.
