SPA 100 - Spanish for the Workplace (3 credits)

This course will focus on providing students with an introduction to the Spanish language and culture in a working environment, with special focus on Health Care and Law Enforcement. It is intended for students who do not speak Spanish or whose knowledge of Spanish is rudimentary. The course will include reading and listening to interactive presentations and practice of written working environment dialogues, to acquire the basic skills to communicate more effectively in Spanish at work. Two voice recording activities will be assigned through the required online software.Prerequisite(s): ENG 101.

SPA 101 - Spanish 1 (3 credits)

This course will focus on an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. It includes the necessary oral practice of dialogues, vocabulary, and basic grammar to communicate in Spanish at a basic level. Students will record paired exercises in Spanish and actively listen to videos and tutorials to help acquire listening and speaking skills. The course requires a computer microphone and the online purchase of En línea, a web-based language interface and textbook.

SPA 102 - Spanish 2 (3 credits)

This course will focus on building upon the student's previous Spanish experience to further expand their vocabulary and grammar. Grammar topics will include the past tense, and complex sentences using object pronouns. The course requires verbal interaction with other students in the class and the instructor in the form or recorded dialogues, collaborative projects, and discussion board exchanges. Prerequisite(s): SPA 101 or two years of recent high school Spanish.
