How to Apply to Charter Oak State College

  • STEP 1:  Complete the Online Application for Admission
  • STEP 2:  Request ALL Official Transcripts
  • STEP 3:  Apply for Financial Aid
  • STEP 4:  Receive Acceptance and Advising Worksheet
  • STEP 5:  Enroll in the College

STEP 1 :  Complete the Application for Admission

Complete Online Admissions Application now!  The application fee of $75 (non-refundable) must be included when submitting your application.  If you expect any of your transcripts to arrive under an alternate name (i.e. maiden name), please provide that information on your application under "Previous Names".

We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and E-Check for the application fee.

Note: if you are applying for a certificate, use our Online Certificate Application.

STEP 2 :  Request ALL Official Transcripts

Request that your official transcripts, test scores, and proof of certifications from ALL originating organizations be sent directly to Registrar, Charter Oak State College, 55 Paul Manafort Drive, New Britain, CT 06053. Transcripts arriving in open envelopes, as an e-mail, or as a fax, are not considered official.

Electronic Transcript Exchange

Charter Oak State College partners with eSCRIP-SAFETM Global Network and the National Student Clearinghouse as a receiver of electronic academic transcripts. Charter Oak is able to receive transcripts from any of the participants in the networks electronically.

Visit the National Student Clearinghouse. If your institution is included as one that can send transcripts through a secure portal, have the transcripts sent to the Registrar at Charter Oak State College, jwashington@charteroak.edu.

How to obtain transcripts for certifications and exams.

STEP 3 :  Apply for Financial Aid

Grants and loans are available to help you finance this important life endeaver.  Complete the FAFSA to determine your eligibility.

STEP 4 :  Receive Acceptance and Advising Worksheet

Once your documents have been received, your file will be reviewed. If you have already earned at least 9 credits, you will be accepted as a student. You will then receive an acknowledgement of your acceptance and an evaluation of your credits including how they may fit into a degree plan.

STEP 5  :  Enroll in the College

After discussing your degree status with your Admissions Counselor, you may Enroll in the College.  You will be automatically registered for your first 3-credit course.  You can register for additional courses after enrollment.

That's it - You're on your way to a degree!

NOTE: A student's file remains active for six months from the date of application. Individuals wishing to matriculate (enroll) after this time must submit a new application and application fee.
