PSA 355: Human Resources in PSA

Course Description

This course will focus on the policies, behaviors and motives affecting recruiting, training, evaluation, and current legal issues in human resources as they pertain to the public safety area. (3 credits)

Prerequisites

  • ENG 101: English Composition 1
  • ENG 102: English Composition 2
  • Background in public safety, or obtained permission from the instructor to take this course

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Identify the values and perceptions of groups affecting recruiting, training, evaluation and current legal issues in human resources as they pertain to the public safety arena.
  2. Examine basic principles of human resource management.
  3. Identify various methodologies in use today in the management of human resources.
  4. Establish practice and policy that utilizes human resources to their utmost potential.
  5. Understand trends and dangers that are evident in human resources management; and examined various laws that affect human resources management.
  6. Examine various laws that affect the management of human resources
