Foundation Courses for Visiting/Guest Students

No Early Childhood Education bachelor's degree? No problem!

The Connecticut Office of Early Childhood offers full scholarships to every teacher or staff member working in any type of OEC licensed early learning center for 12 credits of Foundational Courses to ensure anyone working with young children has a solid foundation. Learn more here and get started!

These are the Foundational Early Childhood Education Courses visiting students may take:

  • ECE 101 - Intro to Early Childhood Education
  • ECE 176 - Health, Safety, and Nutrition: Birth to Eight
  • ECE 247 - Child Development: Birth to Eight
  • EDU 360 - Families, Schools, and Communities
How to Register for Courses:
  1. Fill out the Registration Request Form to create your student account.
  2. Once you have received a username and password (emailed to you within 1 to 2 business days), sign into the MyCharterOak portal.
  3. Register for the course:
    • Choose the Home tab.
    • Click Course Registration.
    • Click Add/Drop Courses.
    • Change the term (based on when you want to take the course from the Term Drop Down Menu).
    • Change the department to Early Childhood or Education using the Department Drop Down Menu.
    • Be sure Undergraduate is selected from the Division Drop Down Menu.
    • Click Search Course to select the course you are registering for.
    • Check the open check box to the left of the course.
    • Click Add Courses.
Verify your Employment in the OEC Registry
  1. Log in to your OEC registry account.
  2. Click on the profile editor.
  3. Verify that your employment has been confirmed. If so, you are ready to move to the next step.

Please note that OEC may request additional information from you. Financial Aid documents are not required for visiting students requesting scholarships.

To Apply for OEC Scholarship:

Confirm with your Center Director that you are working in a OEC licensed facility before submitting scholarship request.

  1. Log in to your OEC registry account.
  2. Click on My Scholarships.
  3. Click on Request Scholarship Assistance.
  4. Click to apply for the following:
    • College credit course tuition
    • Vendor: Charter Oak State College
    • Semester: Summer, Fall, or Spring (depending on when you are registered for your course)
    • Add Courses
    • List all courses you are registered to take.
      • Student Service Fee
      • Technology Fee
      • Goal: 12 defined foundational credits.
  5. Submit scholarship request, monitor your inbox for status updates

It will be important for you to complete the process as soon as possible to secure your scholarship for courses.
