About the Training Sponsor
The International Union of Operating Engineers is the largest supplier of trained, qualified heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and support personnel in the State of Connecticut. It has been providing members with high paying jobs and benefits and meeting contractors' staffing needs for over 90 years.
About the Reviewed Program
To meet increasing demand for qualified technicians in the construction and industrial equipment industry, staff members of I.U.O.E. and Local 478 have worked with industry leaders to develop a comprehensive 4-year program that makes an individual from entry level to fully productive mechanic. During the course of the program, an apprentice develops technical skills and knowledge necessary to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment used in the construction and industrial equipment industry. An apprentice mechanic who successfully completes the program will have gained knowledge of gas and diesel engines, many power train systems, electrical and electronic systems, and will have the capacity to function as a Class 2 journeyman mechanic. To gain credit from Charter Oak State College for this program, participants must successfully complete a minimum of the first three years of the apprenticeship program.
