About the Program
The Siena / Connecticut Institute for Music and the Arts, established in 1980, provides intensive study for qualified participants in music, arts, and language. Performance Practice (3 credits, upper division level, in Applied Music)
To assist students to perform an artistically convincing performance of the music of the masters and to familiarize them with audition levels of performance. The intensive, residential course provides guided training in the reading, phrasing, interpretation and preparation for performance, both in solo and ensemble situations. Classroom instruction, structured and free rehearsal, and concert performances are used to enhance student learning. In addition to the music instruction, the program also offers basic language instruction in Italian and lectures and field trips to better understand the cultural legacy of Italy.
