About the Credential
Effective with the July 2013 Certified Health Technology Specialist - Trainer exam, the skills needed to reorganize the provider's work to effectively use health IT to improve health care, is assessed. Background experience includes health professionals or health information management specialists. Skills include: Experience as a trainer, ability to use range of health IT applications at preferably expert level, communication skills including both health and IT concepts, assessment of training needs and competencies of learners, design lesson plans structuring active learning experiences for learners and track records of users and develop plans for further learning.

EDT 311: Instructional Design (1 credit, upper division level)
This course is designed to teach the concepts in the process of designing, developing and evaluation instruction.
HCA 101: Healthcare Systems and Administration (3 credits, lower division level)
This course provides the broad introduction to health care systems and organizations, including public health, customer service skills such as user-centered processes and focus group concepts; and management skills, trends, public policy and global healthcare issues.
HIM 200: Health Information Systems (3 credits, lower division level)
This course focuses on the use of electronic information systems in healthcare. The integration of administrative, clinical and technical management is promoted with computer technology including decision support systems and health information standards.
HIM 320: Electronic Health Records and Health Information Exchange (3 credits, upper division level)
This course provides the basics of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Health Information Exchange (HIE). The purpose, design and functions of EHR systems, with legal, regulatory and organizational demands, are explored.
ITE 102: Introduction to Computer Science (3 credits, lower division level)
This course provides the introductory fundamentals of computer hardware and software; the internet; the terminology of computing; and system development.
MGT 451: Team Leadership (3 credits, upper division level)
This course examines the interpersonal dynamics of teams and team interaction. Skills for leading teams, problem solving and managing culture and change are explored.
